Hello again, blog lovers! The blog returns! I hope everyone had a Happy Holidays! So over the past week, I saw Mary Poppins Returns not once, but twice! I know there have been some mixed reviews out there, but let me put all of that negativity to rest. This movie is magical, both literally and figuratively. Let me tell you why!
- The casting- Obviously, no one can outdo Julie Andrews. She is Mary Poppins, end all be all. However, Emily Blunt is amazing in this role. She is so believable, lovable, and also incredibly vain (which I love). Her singing is great and you can really feel her connection with the kid actors. And then there’s Lin-Manuel Miranda. Broadway people love him for In the Heights and Hamilton. This is his first movie and while I was THRILLED about his casting, I was scared for him too. Fear not, Broadway people! He nailed it. His natural talent shined through, and he had charisma for days. Dang it Lin, would you quit being so handsome? I have enough celebrity crushes as it is. Anyway part 2!
- The music- Every good Disney movie needs a good score, especially one with this much hype. Even if you aren’t a huge fan of Disney movies, it would be pretty difficult to come out of that movie without humming. Every single song was memorable and all made sense with the plot. The soundtrack is on Spotify by the way, for anyone who wants to listen to Trip A Little Light Fantastic on repeat for the next few days.
- The feel- This is something I can’t describe to you all. You just have to see it. The feel of this movie perfectly combines the original with new animation and music. It really made me feel like I was five years old again, watching Disney do its magic for the very first time.
Between you, me, and the ghostlight, this is a can’t miss for the end of 2018. Happy New Year blog lovers, and we’ll meet again soon- with a book review this time!
